Reiki Intention Box

Image
There are may ways to 'send' Reiki over distance of space and time. For several years , one I've used is writing prayers,  charging the with Reiki (sometimes drawing the symbols), and placing them in my Reiki box. I also invite friends and clients to write the prayers themselves.  Reiki Box The box can be folded from a card (here, I've the box for a chocolate bar) , and decorated as you wish. For this one, I've used acrylics and mod podge on brown packing paper.  Box and collage papers To  activate sending Reiki,  use the techniques you've learned. 'Turn Reiki on, ' draw the symbols, then focus energy on the Reiki Box. If you haven't taken Second degree, simple hold you box, and use your intention to Empower the healing.  Follow your instinct for how long and often to 'send' Reiki.'  You could keep your Reiki Precept cards in this box as well.  Blue crystal heart I placed this blue crystal heart in my Reiki box, and will tuck the pray...

Mental Emotional

Image
We  learn the Mental Emotional symbol (SHK) and its uses in the second degree classes - but may not be sure how to include it in treatments. I was taught to draw the symbol once (yantra), and chant its name 3 times (mantra) - and not to share these with folks not initiated to their use.  First - draw each symbol the way you remember it! (They are aids - and the guides know wheat you intend!) My Master Analyse told us she was happy to help someone refresh with a symbol - and always invites them to draw   it 'their way'  for her first.  Then she helps them fine tune. A couple of my favorite ways to practice the symbols are painting them on rice paper, or drawing them with a stick in the sand, and wipe them away. I love using sumi (ink, inkstone and bush), as Dr Maeda used when he wrote to Hayashi for Mrs Takata - you'll see why, as you grind the ink! Then I tear the paper, and use it in collage, with just a bit peeking through.  The mental emotional...

Practical Reiki

Image
The Reiki precepts begin  kyo dake wa , just for today ... I love the concept that we become the jumper cables for the energy - it flows through, not from us. When we have Reiki, we can invite the energy to flow into our activities and interactions throughout each day.  Morning bowl While Mrs Takata awaited surgery in Dr Maeda's hospital in Tokyo, each meal prepared by the doctor's sister, the dietician, was  blessed with Reiki : green tea, Rice, beans, steamed vegetables (especially carrots & beets), seaweed.  As she learned Reiki herself, Mrs Takata blessed her own food and drink, and later recommended that her students do the same. Teachers in many traditions suggest blessing what we serve and ingest, when we do this daily, it soon becomes second nature. We can also use Reiki around the home: set up an altar hold seeds or herbs a minute before we plant them bless a craft project we're working on sweep the floor whilst talking with a friend or on the phon...

Preparing for Class

Image
Before taking a Reiki class or other energy training, it can helpful to spend time the week before in preparation.  This 'sets the stage' for receiving and integrating the energy and teachings.  A favorite reference, The Reiki Sourcebook notes, 'Reiki re-aligns one with one's true path, source and spirit.'   What we do before and after the class and attunements facilitates that realignment!  We can also Deepen with Reiki at any time, on our own or with other practioners.  Some of my favorite experiences have been sharing time with others attuned to Reiki during 'chance' meetings or more formal Reiki shares.  Preparation: It's ideal to receive a Reiki session the week prior to initiation. Eat consciously - whole local foods when possible Drink extra water, rest as needed Limit use of alcohol, coffee, any drugs (take your usual prescriptions!) Note synchronicities, dreams, and insights Incorporate some gentle, energy enhancing movement If you med...

Making cards

Image
Last week, we made small ATC (artist trading cards) with one of the other moderators in our Red Thread Circle. Making small cards for affirmation, to-dos, setting intention, or prayer flags is one of my favorite small projects.  In many traditions, flags of paper or cloth are hung to send prayers, praise and blessings on the wind. We recently used strips of fabric and sharpies in our church courtyard, for our monthly farmers market booth, and participants tied their prayers on clotheslines hung between the trees.  Chakra flags - Batik fabric I invite students to make prayer flags for the Reiki Principles in our First Degree classes. These remind us of these precepts, we can choose one to work with for a day or week, or recite them ... This is a simple way to bring the principles to life, and deepen with Reiki.  Flags on brown paper bag I used the cards begun in last week's Circle for the Japanese words, and pull them out for the morning and evening Hatsurei-Ho medi...

Reiki Precepts

Image
When I took my first Reiki class in the fall of 1989, my teacher Annalise taught us the 5 Reiki Principles or precepts, and invited us to work with them as we 'cleared the pipes' for Reiki to flow, and practices being more present. Neurographic doodle on 'Presence' As I began teaching several years later, I was surprised when students from other Masters told me they hadn't realized the Principles were 'really' part of Reiki! (Just something their teacher added) a precept is, 'a general rule which helps you decide how to behave in particular circumstances' - offering a moral compass.  Reiki Principles - my Reiki journal More of Reiki's origins became known in the West after the discovery of founder Usui's memorial stone in 1994. Translated, part of the inscription reads, 'Thus, before the teachings, the 'Ikun' (admonition) of the Meiji Emperor should reverently be told and the Five Precepts (gokai) be chanted and kept in mind morn...

Reiki shares

Image
In the late 80s when I was first attuned to Reiki, the classes I took were small, and the exchanges were one-on one. At Breitenbush, I experienced group sessions at our PNW Reiki gatherings, and in my classes, but only occasionally with visiting Masters. Stones from Reiki Mastery Students When I moved to the Oregon coast in the fall of 1994, I began offering Reiki classes and Initiations in the local area.   Shortly after arriving in Neskoin, I met Anita, who had taken Reiki 1 & 2 before moving to Oregon. Anita knew she   wanted  "Personal Mastery,"  and felt Reiki might be the vessel she sought. Was I willing to take her as a student? ... Yes!   Dance of energy Anita loved Reiki shates, and offered to host and help facilitate Circles for our community! We set up 2 tables, and she opened her living room for weekly circles. We also offered classes together, and Anita taught our group a lot about holding space, from her ex periences with Reiki,...

Equinox Blessings

Image
Embrace the power of the Equinox to fully embody Divine Timing and the power of the present moment!  So often we get caught up in "Should have, .... Could have, .... if only..."  And forget to enjoy the moment we are living!  In our Intentional art community, we often say, "there's no behind" ...  Perhaps you're on step 3, while others are on step 5 ...  What if we don't race to 'catch up,' but focus on the inquiries and lessons of step 3?  Someone is likely on step 1 or 2 ... which lay the foundation for the following steps.  When we rush to 'catch up,' often something important is overlooked - which may be perfect in its own way, and may be the reminder we need to stay present.h The Reiki precepts invite us to embody presence, and several begin, "just for today,'  This day, of equal day and night, may we find the balance of Divine Timing, and be present to the possibilities inherent in this moment!  JUST FOR TODAY, MAY WE BE P...

Reiki Renewal

Image
During our Reiki journies, we experience ebb and flow, when we feel less or more connection to the energy. I remember my surprise when I asked a couple who had taken separate classes how they used Reiki together, and they said, "oh, we don't really use it any more!"  ... and my thought:  "but Reiki flows every time you touch each other!"   Now, that's my belief - that Reiki flows as it's needed, and is amplified in the presence of other practitioners ... And ... adding the element of intention helps focus the flow!  Interested in healing from an early age, and in sharing what I learn with others, I was drawn to teaching Reiki from my first initiation, and to teaching Intentional Creativity® when that came my way. It seemed natural to explore the connection between the two, to follow the Red Thread  to weave them together. In 1991 as I began teaching Reiki, I thought about Dr Maeda bringing out traditional writing implements to craft the letter t...

Prayer flags - Red Thread Circle

Image
I love bringing simple projects to our Red Thread Circle, and making affirmation cards or prayer flags are a couple of my favorites. In many traditions, little flags or paper or cloth are hung to send prayers, praise and blessings on the wind.  Chakra flags - Batik fabric We often make prayer flags for the Reiki Principles in our First Degree classes as well. This combines the energy of each principle, and can be hung to inspire us. of you'd like to bring the principles to life, this is a simple way.  Individual Flags on brown paper bag These are Reiki Principle  flags I created during one of my first degree classes

Self Care Reiki style

Image
Mrs Takata encouraged her students to practice  "Reiki for the self first! "  before treating others. She taught a simple self treatment pattern, and encouraged them to receive Reiki as well. When we're new students, we are excited and inspired to practice self Reiki daily, but as time passes, we may fall away. When's the last time you did a self-Reiki session   or received Reiki? Lineage head Phyllis Furomoto recommends receiving Reiki weekly throughout the year, and for a block of several days each month...  Wow!  I receive regular bodywork sessions with a co-worker who is also a Reiki practitioner, but receiving a full Reiki session is rare.  I recently received an invitation to the 30 days of of selfcare challenge on Instagram, and immediately thought of including Reiki!  I often practice self-Reiki when I awaken, as part of the Miracle Hour process:  Silence (Self Reiki) Affirmation (Reiki principles) Visualization (M/E) E...

Miracle Hour, Reiki Style

Image
On Sunday, I enjoyed reading about and watching short videos on the Danish inspired Hyyge , which includes bringing comfort home by creating a cozy surroundings. During this meander, I stumbled on Chelsea Dinen's introduction to waking a bit earlier and giving yourself a Miracle Hour .  Popularized by Hal Elrod, the Miracle Hour weaves elements found in the Artist Way Morning pages , my teacher Shiloh's Morning Cafê , and  to beginning the day with Reiki and Qigong. The acronym SAVERS gives a key to the ~ 10 minuet components for one's Miracle Hour: S - Silence (Self-Reiki!) A - Affirmation (Mental/Emotional self treatment) V - Visualization E - Exercise (Qigong) R - Read - Dharma /wisdom teachings S - Scribing (Reiki or Gratitude journal) This morning, I began my practice with Self-Reiki , combining both Silence  during the treatment flow, and Affirmations , thinking of the Reiki Principles, and including an Affirmation with my  Mental/ Emotion...

Beginning - Reiki 1

Image
When a friend or family member is suffering, do you wish there was 'something more' you could do? When I began offering massage in the early 80s, I often felt that way, .... then I discovered Reiki!  I've offered Reiki sessions and classes for over 25 years, and am continually touched by Reiki's gentle power, and suitability for most circumstances.  I recently spent time with my friend Margot, who was initiated by Takata in 1972. She enjoyed the class, but didn't focus much attention on Reiki till she was studying massage a decade later, and was reintroduced. Like me, she opens the Reiki Door through sessions, classes and circles in her community, and loves Reiki.  Have you taken Reiki, and would like to reconnect with the energy? Or is it something you've wanted to learn? In either case, I'd love to work with you.  If you are sensitive to energy, and easily overwhelmed, you may find Reiki helps mitigate that, and you're better able to function...

Red Thread Reiki

When studying Intentional Creativity last year, preparing to become a Color of Woman teacher and IC coach, I needed to offer several Red Thread Circles and events. My teacher Shiloh Sophia invited me to consider the connections  between Reiki and the IC teachings, "I know there are connections, explore what they are." A Chinese legend tells that we are connected before birth with those whom we're destined to meet by an invisible Red Thread. Through out lives, the thread may twist, stretch and tangle, but will never break. We each hold, and are responsible for our own piece of this thread. I immediately saw a connection with my own Reiki Thread, and considered how to weave the IC teachings to support my Reiki students. In April on 2015, I included a simple red thread circle during our Reiki I class, inviting each initiate to share her piece of the thread. During 2nd Degree class in July, we incorporated the symbol practice sheets into a Medicine Basket journal cover...

Clearing Old Stories

Image
What stories run your life? Can you imagine learning ways to identify and clear the ones which no longer serve? Can you feel into living unrestrained by the old patterns? Reiki and the soulful story process offer you that opportunity! Many of us live with past beliefs and old responses, which keep us from living the lives we long for. When we bring those old stories to light, we have a Golden opportunity to change the script. Reiki and Intentional Creativity alchemise the transformation, making a path for true change. The Reiki principles offer a set of guidelines which can help us define core values and  Soulful Story Cards change the stories. Adapting them from  principles set forth by the Meiji emperor, Reiki founder Mikeo Usui offered these ideals to his students: For today only Anger not  Worry not With appreciation do work To others be kind Show gratitude Reiki and Intentional Creativity offer many tools for personal growth and positive shifts...

Reiki for the Self First

In her Reiki Webinar earlier this Week, East Coast Master Pamela Miles stressed the importance of developing a daily Self-Reiki practice . Initiated in the mid-eighties, Pamela began doing self-Reiki daily after that first class, & has continued. Her primary question to any Reiki student or practitioner experiencing problems 'Do you practice Daily Self Reiki? I remember my Master Analyse suggesting we fall asleep with one hand on our belly & one on our heart. Other masters suggest alternating between a full Self-treatment and one on the chakras. When was asked about Certification and Completion Requirements. Pamela chuckled & said she doesn't offer certification, but she does have some requirements. For First Degree: she invites her students to practice Self Reiki Daily, and she asks them one question ....  On her blog, Pamela shared her simple morning practice:  "To offer myself a full Reiki self-treatment, I place my hands on these areas of my body, in...

Energy Exchange

Image
When Usui & Hayashi taught Reiki in Japan, they taught within a tradition that honored and respected wisdom keepers and their teachings. The Reiki Principles remind us to: Today only anger not worry not With appreciation Do work To people be kind Mind body change it for better Usui Reiki method Lakshmi Goddess Lakshmi means Good Luck to Hindus. The word 'Lakshmi' is derived from the Sanskrit word "Laksya", meaning 'aim' or 'goal', and she is the goddess of wealth and prosperity, both material and spiritual. She is dressed in red, with cascades of coins flowing from her hands. She is a Mother Goddess, Mata, & her month of celebration is October. In the mid 90s, a friend told me she saw an association with Lakshmi, & I found a small statuette at the Crystal Wizard . I read about Mata Lakshmi, & gave her a fluorite throne, & surrounded her with rose petals, coins, other symbols of abundance. Here's a traditional Lak...
