Gaining experience

At the end of our recent Reiki 1 class, our hostess offered the treatment room as a place to practice with other students, and offered to exchange sessions.  We practiced the positions for head, then chest front and back, in the seperate sessions, and I encouraged them to do self Reiki, and practice on family and pets.  Sometimes, students don't have much practice time in class, which may cause them to feel they aren't fully prepared! On a couple of our calls in 2017, Phyllis Furumoto commented we each choose our path, and we each take on what we need in the moment.  NW Reiki gathering at Menucha   This summer I attended the 40th NW Reiki gathering at Menucha center on the Columbia river, and time was offered daily for Reiki exchanges, with 3-5 people at each treatment table. There were brand new Reiki 1 practioners, and Masters who've practiced for decades - all were glad to give and receive! Anneli Twan - a Master for 40 years We heard stories, enjoyed the ab...

Daily Reiki - for the self first

Image
When she began teaching Reiki in the 1930s, lineage bearer Hawayo Takata invited her students to practice Reiki 'for the self first' - and ideally, every day! Igniting the spark Like Takata, teachers invite their students to practice self-Reiki for 21 days following each class, as they begin to integrate their Reiki lifeway. Takata's granddaughter Phyllis Lei Furumoto recommended doing self Reiki daily , receiving a session weekly , and scheduling 1/2 day of self care and Reiki monthly .  East Coast Master Pamela Miles also stresses the importance of developing a daily  Self-Reiki practice . Pamela commented she doesn't offer certificates, but she does invite her students to follow her lead on practicing daily self-Reiki. Her inquiry of any Reiki student or practitioner experiencing problems is,  'Do you practice Daily Self Reiki?' My Master Analise suggested we fall asleep with one hand on our belly & one on our heart. Other masters suggest alternating b...

The passing of our lineage bearer

Image
I just learned that at 7:10 AM PDT, March 31, 2019, our lineage bearer Phyllis Lei Furumoto made transition at her home, surrounded by love. The community will miss her! I met Phyllis shortly after becoming a Reiki master, at the 1991 NW Reiki gathering at Phyllis lei Furomoto 2019 Breitenbush Hot Springs . It was a wonderful immersion into the International Reiki community, Phyllis and the other Masters and attendees shared stories, laughter, tears and healing.  We divided into small groups where we shared more personally, and exchanged Reiki. I was blessed to attend several gatherings, and played harp for a meditation Phyllis led one year. Phyllis' path with Reiki was uneven. As a child, her grandmother Hawayo Takata initiated her in Reiki, and as a teen, into second degree.  Phyllis commented that though her own mother grew up with Reiki, she was quick to grab the aspirin or other pharmaceutical remedies, rather than offering Reiki! After second degree, Grandmother...
