Chronic pain

Image
A recent inquiry in our Reiki Community group was on coping with one's own chronic pain. Takata's story of her healing journey offers a good example for healing from chronic issues. Takata received treatment at the Reiki clinic AND from Dr Medea's sister, Mrs Shimura, daily for 3 weeks, after which she felt better. She continued to receive treatments for 6 months, before beginning training. She became a student, learning and practicing for the next year, completing Okuden (what we now call 2nd degree) by the end of that time. (Reiki Sourcebook,  pp 144-45) My massage mentor Jeanne often said healing is like peeling an onion - the longer the issue has plagued you, the longer it's (likely) to take to heal - and we work on a layer of two at a time! She'd often tell a client, 'if its bothered you for several years, and you come regularly, it will likely take several months to notice a shift! But it is likely you'll feel better!' Reiki 2

When I took First Degree Reiki in 1989, I knew I wanted to continue with the trainings, and eventually, to open the Reiki door for others . The next step on the path to Mastery the Second level, or Okuden . A year later, I was able to take that step.  Some time ago, my  ᏦᏍᏓᏓᎸ (tso-s-da-da-lv /  Sister)  in Reiki, Sheila King , wrote: 'Going deeply into your heart           Going deeply into your healing                     Opening yourself to the light ... 'The Japanese word Okuden means 'the Deeper knowledge'. To take Second degree Reiki means to open to deeper levels of Reiki and to yourself. Reiki on all levels is like  light in our lives, shining in all the dark corners, bringing us into alignment with our Higher Selves.  'First degree is like a flashlight shining within us. As we complete the shifting this illumination brings, we are ready to welcome the brighter stronger...

Okuden, Going Deeper

In a recent e-mail, my friend Reiki-Master sister Sheila King wrote: 'Going deeply into your heart           Going deeply into your healing                     Opening yourself to the light ... As we complete the shifting this illumination brings, we are ready to welcome the brighter stronger light that is Okuden. Initiation into Second degree gives us much more Light & energy to direct. ' With first Degree Reiki, we place our hands and the energy flows, beautifully, magically, what a blessing! It is unconsciously available at any time ... with Okuden, with deepening, w...

Reiki II

The Second degree or "Oku Den" training expands your Reiki practice in many ways, including tools to: offer Reiki over distance of space & time enhance and deepen your hands-on Reiki practice harmonize mind & emotions bring more ease to learning new skills bring the power of Reiki to lifes challenges bless your food, drink, home  begin or continue your Reiki Journal work more consciously with the Reiki guides During the Second degree class, students learn three Reiki symbols (Yantras) & the accompanying words (Mantras) and receive another initiation . It's helpful to revisit these tips several weeks before the initiation. Like my Reiki master, Analyse, Dr Hayashi used the image of a muddy stream when explaining the natural clearing process - water may look clear, but there's mud under the surface. Flushing this, or removing the mud on the top, the stream will appear to clear, but there will still be mud ... repeat the process, eventual...

Byôsen - utilizing in sessions

Image
In the last post , I gave several exercise to increase the ability to sense Byôsen. The word comes from "byo" - ill, stiffness, tumor; "sen" gland. In Usui's original training, the ability to sense byosen was necessary for the student to advance to Oku Den , the next level. Byôsen can be felt as warmth, strong heat, tingling, pulsing sensations, or tension. In 'The Hayashi Reiki Manual,' Petters describes a session where he was holding the client's feet &  " perceived my client's whole body at once, the way you would feel the whole form of an apple if you wrap your hands around it. I felt not only the outside of his body but the inside as well. I could feel his feet, his legs, his inner organs, his back, his head, his hair .. I could feel where energy was moving freely and where it was obstructed. The problem areas felt like dark spots in a light body, like dark holes in the Milky Way." (p. 45) This brings to mind a time when ...

Chujiro Hayashi

Image
Chujiro Hayashi was born in 1879 or '80 in Tokyo. Like Usui, he was married, with two children. He served in the Japanese Navy, & in 1918, became commander of the defence station of Port Owinato. Hayashi trained in Western and Chinese medicine, and his traditional Japanese spiritual practices included Soto Zen & Shinto. His student Mrs Yamaguchi relayed he was also Christian (Methodist). This would not be uncommon in Japan, even now. Hayashi retired from the Navy, & in 1925, became a student of Mikeo Usui, 10 months before Usui's death. Several other Naval officers joined the school not long afterward, & continued his healing/spiritual work under the title 'Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai.  In 1931, Hayashi began developing his own clinic & school for healing, which became known as Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu Kai - Hayashi Spiritual Energy Research Society. His clinic had a treatment room where eight clients could be treated, with two practitioners at each futon...
