Reiki shares

In the late 80s when I was first attuned to Reiki, the classes I took were small, and the exchanges were one-on one. At Breitenbush, I experienced group sessions at our PNW Reiki gatherings, and in my classes, but only occasionally with visiting Masters. Stones from Reiki Mastery Students When I moved to the Oregon coast in the fall of 1994, I began offering Reiki classes and Initiations in the local area.   Shortly after arriving in Neskoin, I met Anita, who had taken Reiki 1 & 2 before moving to Oregon. Anita knew she   wanted  "Personal Mastery,"  and felt Reiki might be the vessel she sought. Was I willing to take her as a student? ... Yes!   Dance of energy Anita loved Reiki shates, and offered to host and help facilitate Circles for our community! We set up 2 tables, and she opened her living room for weekly circles. We also offered classes together, and Anita taught our group a lot about holding space, from her ex periences with Reiki,...

Reiki Anniversary

Image
This month marks my 30th anniversary as a Reiki Master -  When the student is ready ....  A friend calls it holes - when you know something's important, and you need to do it, but - why? I can trace my "introduction" to the healing modality I'd been seeking to a harp concert  (by a 2nd degree practitioner!) 9 months before, in a bookstore about an hour away. Who could resist Karen Brunner's title, "Out of the Silence, Into the Wind" ... And her tape, Where the Dragons Come to Drink - recorded the summer before during the Lion's Gate portal, 8-8-88. So I was drawn to that January concert!  ... After the amazing concert, I looked for the right book , picked up one on Chiron (Barbara Hand Clow's), the wounded healer ...  That fall, I saw an announcement for a talk on Chiron - at the same bookstore that hosted the concert! The catalogue was in the Mail, when I returned from offering a talk to on asteroids to a local Astrology group - how could I No...

Everyday Reiki

Image
The Reiki precepts begin kyo dake wa , just for today ... When we have Reiki, we can invite the energy to flow into our activities and interactions throughout the day.  While Takata awaited surgery in Dr Maeda's hospital in Tokyo, each of the meals prepared by the doctor's sister the dietician was blessed with Reiki : green tea, Rice, beans, steamed vegetables (especially carrots & beets), seaweed. As she learned Reiki herself, Mrs Takata blessed her own food and drink, and later recommended her students do the same. Teachers in many traditions suggest blessing what we ingest, it's something we do daily, and soon becomes second nature. We can also use Reiki around the home: set up an altar hold seeds or herbs a minute before we plant them bless a craft project we're working on sweep the floor play a musical instrument atune to objects as we decide whether to keep them, or pass them on In addition to doing sessions on ourselves, our pets and each other, we can use Re...

Reiki Styles

Image
There was a discussion on Linkdin recently following the inquiry "are there different styles of Reiki?"  Yes & no!  Many different branches have formed, since Mikao Usui brought Reiki forward more than 100 years ago.  This article provides an interesting overview of the history in Japan, plus some of the Western modifications & modifiers! Usui's focus (Usui-Do) was on a spiritual system rather than hands-on healing, and many of his students were Buddhist monks and nuns, including his neice Suzuki-san, Yuri-in (who lived past 100), & Tenon-in (aka Mariko-Obaasan) who in died in 2005 at 107. Research, practice and a traditional fast granted Usui a high level of Ki. Around 1925, Usui-Sensei began 'renting out his dojo to others,' who would present their own lessons. Senior students Toshihiro Eguchi & Dr. Chuujiro Hayashi both explored healing, & included hand healing concepts and an energy transfer ceremony in their own teachings. Spiritua...

Diminuitive Dynamo - part 2

After Mrs Takata recovered her health, she was ready for the next step:  Learning how to do this wonderful Reiki!  She asked Mr Hayashi, but he was reluctant to teach a Western person Reiki, feeling that Japan had already 'lost' enough of its teachings to the US. “It is a closely guarded treasure. It is for Japanese people only.”   She WAS an American woman! When she wanted to see something, she stopped and looked. When she wanted to know something, she asked. She respected his answer, and said no more; but she wasn't about to give up! One day, her surgeon, Dr Maeda, asked how she was doing. She told him that she had a reaction after the forth treatment. Then, for 14 days & nights, 'bathroom, bathroom, bathroom! So much I had to crawl back to my room. I was able to walk for the first time December 24, my birthday; and the next day I was a new person. I gained 14 pounds, and lost 10 years! I am getting well, & I want to learn Reiki. Please, doctor...

Being Reiki

Image
While writing about Reiki yesterday, I looked on u-tube to see if there was anything with our beloved USA Lineage keeper, Phyllis Furomoto , who is Takata's granddaughter. I've had the honor/blessing of meeting Phyllis during Reiki Gatherings at Breitenbush, & played the harp for a meditation she led. I found a delightful interview done in 1912, with another Reiki Master of Japanese descent, Barbara Matsuura . As I listened to the 6 segments (1 hour total) I found that though she has travelled more than I, there are many places Matsuura's & my paths overlap! She studied ballet, & then learned Tai Chi & Qigong. I began with ballet in 1978, & studied Tai Chi concurrent with my massage training, beginning in 1983.  I began teaching both Reiki and Tai Chi in  the early 90s, & have been working more deeply with Qigong the last decade.
