I am so grateful I gave myself this opportunity to deepen with my own Reiki Practice over the last 3 weeks. I committed to just 14 days, then extended to the full 21 days integration period suggested to our students! And am inspired to consciously continue practicing Reiki daily!  During the past three weeks, I did self Reiki and one or more chi practice daily, wrote about Reiki, joined the Reiki Summit (what great timing!) , and met with a sister master about offering Reiki circles.  Here's a recap of the topics - I've grouped them into 'families' and added a few older posts you may find helpful.  Reiki 1 - Reiki and Massage   Reiki for self - recharge - holding space Challenge - renewal - gaining experience Preparing for sessions - home care Reiki + EFT - Trauma - grounding Practices : Gasshô - morning prayer   Moving chi  - Practical Reiki Reiki 2  - journal Symbols : Mental emotional Distant Reiki  - power May these practices ...

Reiki Mastery - Teaching

Image
A question I ask my Reiki Mastery candidates is, "are you drawn to teach Reiki, or to personal Mastery?"   For some, the desire to pass on the teachings and "open the Reiki door" is strong; while others are more focused on their personal journey. I've written about that personal quest here , which lays the foundation for teaching and passing atunements. I offer both personal and teaching Mastery lessons and attunement. Readiness You bring  "the essence of Reiki"  to most situations You possess a  Burning Desire  to share Reiki teachings You have a strong Personal Reiki practice You feel aligned with the Reiki Principles We feel a Mutual resonance for working together In addition to the preparation and teachings offered in the personal Mastery class, those wishing to teach Reiki are supported as they learn to offer class of their own. Mastery Teachings include: Holding space and energy Teaching classes - essence, form, history, treatmen...

Reiki Mastery Journey - deepening

Image
When I took First Degree thirty years ago, my teacher Analise explained the levels, and I immediately knew I wished to learn to "open the Reiki door" for others! The next year, I began trading sessions with a nearby practitioner .  I traveled to Janelle's studio in a nearby town, and she would come to mine. This was an excellent way to ground the teachings, as Analise had moved out of state, and I didn't know any other Reiki practioners.  Healing flame - Breitenbush 1993 In fall I took Reiki 2, and the following summer ('91), let Analise know I'd like to take Reiki 3 on her next visit to Oregon. She told me she was coming in early summer, so we set the date! (Yikes!!)   I offered massage on the Healing Arts team, and they had decided to take  initiation in Reiki 1 the previous year. I was asked to offer level 2 initiation for the team after my own training, and initiated a number of staff over the next decade.  There were 3 other students in our Ma...

Clearing Old Stories

Image
What stories run your life? Can you imagine learning ways to identify and clear the ones which no longer serve? Can you feel into living unrestrained by the old patterns? Reiki and the soulful story process offer you that opportunity! Many of us live with past beliefs and old responses, which keep us from living the lives we long for. When we bring those old stories to light, we have a Golden opportunity to change the script. Reiki and Intentional Creativity alchemise the transformation, making a path for true change. The Reiki principles offer a set of guidelines which can help us define core values and  Soulful Story Cards change the stories. Adapting them from  principles set forth by the Meiji emperor, Reiki founder Mikeo Usui offered these ideals to his students: For today only Anger not  Worry not With appreciation do work To others be kind Show gratitude Reiki and Intentional Creativity offer many tools for personal growth and positive shifts...

Okuden, Going Deeper

Image
In a recent e-mail, my friend Reiki-Master sister Sheila King wrote: 'Going deeply into your heart           Going deeply into your healing                     Opening yourself to the light ... 'The Japanese word Okuden means 'the Deeper knowledge'. To take Second degree Reiki means to open to deeper levels of Reiki and to yourself. Reiki on all levels is like   light in our lives, shining in all the dark corners, bringing us into alignment with our Higher Selves. First degree is like a flashlight shining within us. As we complete the shifting this illumination brings, we are ready to welcome the brighter stronger light that is Okuden. Initiation into Second degree gives us much more Light & energy to direct. ' With first Degree Reiki, we place our hands and the energy flows, beautifully, magically, what a blessing! It is unconsciously available at any time ... with Okuden, with deepening, w...

Diminuitive Dynamo - part 2

Image
After Mrs Takata recovered her health, she was ready for the next step:  Learning how to do this wonderful Reiki!  She asked Mr Hayashi, but he was reluctant to teach a Western person Reiki, feeling that Japan had already 'lost' enough of its teachings to the US. “It is a closely guarded treasure. It is for Japanese people only.”   She WAS an American woman! When she wanted to see something, she stopped and looked. When she wanted to know something, she asked. She respected his answer, and said no more; but she wasn't about to give up! One day, her surgeon, Dr Maeda, asked how she was doing. She told him that she had a reaction after the forth treatment. Then, for 14 days & nights, 'bathroom, bathroom, bathroom! So much I had to crawl back to my room. I was able to walk for the first time December 24, my birthday; and the next day I was a new person. I gained 14 pounds, and lost 10 years! I am getting well, & I want to learn Reiki. Please, doctor...

Ready for Reiki

Image
When the sudent - or teacher, is ready, things happen! For several years I taught Reiki intensively - small classes & workshop offerings at Breitenbush Hot Springs, a 'sabatical' (from massage) year at the coast with weekly Reiki circles, then classes here in McMinnville, including initiating my daughter & daughter-in law .... then those girls began having babies, & my GRANDMAMA years began! That coincided with my move to a co-op office with several treatment rooms, but no large classroom space. I adapted by teaching a few classes elsewhere, & offering individual training in my own Therapy room. Recently, a friend expressed interest in a class, & I approached a couple of friends about using their spaces for classes. So in January, I'll begin offering classes again on a regular basis! I'm excited. Your Reiki class, teacher & community: You'll be attuned to Reiki - a lifelong tool!  Learn to treat yourself and loved ones (including p...

Diminuative Dynamo

Image
As a child, I always LOVED it when my mama told stories of 'the Olden Days,' when she was growing up. Many of the stories of Reiki that have come down to us were told by the the Dynamic woman who brought Reiki to the West in 1938, Hawayo Takata. I've always loved the stories she told of her own experiences. Born Christmas Day, 1900 in Hanamaula, Kaui, Hawaii; Hawayo Kawamura's mother had big dreams for her tiny daughter, so named her after the Big Island of Hawaii. As a young girl, Hawayo quickly moved from field work to working in a Store, & March 10, 1917, she married Saichi Takata. They had two daughter, and remained in Hawaii, while the Kawamuras returned to Japan. By 1930, she had been widowed, & in 1935, her sister died. Her own health had deteriorated, both from continuing to work hard, & from grief. She decided to take the news of her sister's death to her parents directly, & visited them in Japan to do so. After the services were fin...

Reiki I

Image
I came to Reiki training by 'happenstance,' when I attended a talk on the asteroid Chiron, the 'wounded healer , the speaker mentioned how Chiron oversaw healing initiations, & that she would offer a Reiki class in a few weeks. "As an archetype, Chiron embodies key a lesson for today: how to link the daily concerns of life (paying the rent, washing the laundry, getting around in the world, and so forth) with the more profound spiritual realities — and then sharing what we learn with others. Chiron thus symbolizes the ability to establish a working bridge between the realm of the earth and the realm of Spirit." I was intrigued, & signed up for the class on the spot. I'd long realized there was 'more we could do' with our hands, without personal effort; but hadn't been sure how to tap it consistently. The class answered many questions, & left me hungry for more, when the time was ripe! Some students who are drawn to Reiki have ...

Beginnings

Image
"King, did you hear that? The hands of a healer, I say." Return of the King - J.R.R. Tolkein I began my journey with Reiki over twenty years ago, in Nov. 1989, six years into my massage practice. In the early 80s, I learned a brief ' Polarity ' treatment during my basic massage training, & felt there should be more we could do with our healing hands!  So when I attended a talk on healing, and  the speaker (Analyse Chamberlaine) mentioned she would offer a Level I Reiki training in a couple of weeks, I realized this is for me! ' & signed up. I continued to study with Analyse over the next several years, becoming a Reiki Master early summer, 1991. Reiki met, no, exceeded my expectations, & that first class affirmed my sense that I wanted to open the Reiki door' for others! I've been offering sessions & teaching Reiki for over  20 years, & am still amazed at its simplicity & strength! Reiki, pronounced ' ray-key ,' is...
