The Power of Attunement

Image
In a recent post in the Usui Reiki Ryōhō group on Facebook, the querent asked ' if Reiki energy is in everything, why do we need to be attuned? ' Why, indeed? I've been asked this question several times over the last 34 years, and usually offer a story... Mrs Takata, who brought Reiki to the West, used the analogy of Radio waves - and talked about tuning in to the Reiki Channel - moving the dial till you get a clear signal. She also suggested envisioning the 'distant' symbol as a radio tower, for beaming energy / 'sending' the a Reiki energy over distance of space and time. Reiki precepts In my own experience as a Reiki teacher in the Usui/ Hayashi/Takata / Furumoto lineage: one of my first students in 1991 was very peaved that her 'guides' insisted she take my Reiki class! She already DID healing, thank you very much!  Sigh ... they kept nudging, so she came (I've written another part of her story here ) We talked a few minutes, A. was VERY re...

Moving Chi

Some of my joys when I lived and worked at Breitenbush Hot Springs were going to sleep to the song of the river, being fed lovely organic meals, and walking everywhere!  My daily commute was across the footbridge, to the 30s style wooden cabin where we offered massage, Reiki, and a mineral water soak and wrap.   Prayer flags in the woods Then options included heading to the dining hall for meals, to the sauna or one of the mineral pools for a steam or soak, to the Sanctuary for a daily well being session, to the lodge for a visit, or the trails for a hike - all of these accessed on foot! I got good boots, rain hat and warm coat - and I was set! (With geothermal lines under the paths,  those melted first when we had snow.  That first winter, our Events Coordinator asked another practioner and me to offer Tai Chi as well-being classes for our holiday guests. I came to his session for ideas, as I'd not taught yet, and was used to doing a complete form ...

Reiki Anniversary

Image
This month marks my 30th anniversary as a Reiki Master -  When the student is ready ....  A friend calls it holes - when you know something's important, and you need to do it, but - why? I can trace my "introduction" to the healing modality I'd been seeking to a harp concert  (by a 2nd degree practitioner!) 9 months before, in a bookstore about an hour away. Who could resist Karen Brunner's title, "Out of the Silence, Into the Wind" ... And her tape, Where the Dragons Come to Drink - recorded the summer before during the Lion's Gate portal, 8-8-88. So I was drawn to that January concert!  ... After the amazing concert, I looked for the right book , picked up one on Chiron (Barbara Hand Clow's), the wounded healer ...  That fall, I saw an announcement for a talk on Chiron - at the same bookstore that hosted the concert! The catalogue was in the Mail, when I returned from offering a talk to on asteroids to a local Astrology group - how could I No...

Lightwork

Image
Living and working on Healing Arts at Breitenbush in the 90s, I was blessed to attend the Annual Reiki Gathering with Phyllis Lei Furomoto, and to study with healers and mentors from many traditions and backgrounds, including Wheels of Light author Rosalyn Bruyere, the Breema community, Egypt scholar Nicky Scully, Qigong teachers, ethetic healer Eric Vormanns, Lightwork teacher Amorah Quan Yin, and many others. I met Mt Shasta healer  Amorah  shortly after moving to Breitenbush thirty years ago, and enjoyed our chats and hearing about her Pleiadian Lightwork, and the book ( Pleiadian Workbook ) she was writing. So when she offered her month long intensive training several years later at Breitenbush, I signed up!  I had moved to the coast, but was asked to 'fill-in' in the Healing Arts, during the time the workshop was scheduled.  So I asked for and received received permission to schedule my sessions around our workshop time! As Amorah suggested, I purchased ...

Qigong, Tai Chi and Reiki

Image
My massage mentor had polio in the 40s, and recommended we take Tai Chi in '83 to support the bodywork! My own mum had polio in 1921, and needed to use crutches for balance - she encouraged me to be a active as possible.  I studied Yang long form Tai Chi with Maria Wen Yen Liu in Salem, who began each class with a series of Qigong warm up exercises. Maria learned from her father in China, beginning at 3 years old!  I had begun taking Russian ballet 5 years before, with Lynn Marchant , a world class teacher from the Bay area, who had also studied Tai Chi. I continuedwith both ballet and Tai Chi, till I moved to Breitenbush Hot Springs in '91.  At Breitenbush, I began teaching a drop in Qi class for staff and guests 2x a week, as part of our Daily Well Being offerings, and took workshops as I could. One on 1994, with a Qigong teacher that Heiner F. brought from China, included eating stars (!) and a Tiger form, plus exchanging Qi with trees ...  I took Reiki ...

Reiki Mastery Journey - deepening

Image
When I took First Degree thirty years ago, my teacher Analise explained the levels, and I immediately knew I wished to learn to "open the Reiki door" for others! The next year, I began trading sessions with a nearby practitioner .  I traveled to Janelle's studio in a nearby town, and she would come to mine. This was an excellent way to ground the teachings, as Analise had moved out of state, and I didn't know any other Reiki practioners.  Healing flame - Breitenbush 1993 In fall I took Reiki 2, and the following summer ('91), let Analise know I'd like to take Reiki 3 on her next visit to Oregon. She told me she was coming in early summer, so we set the date! (Yikes!!)   I offered massage on the Healing Arts team, and they had decided to take  initiation in Reiki 1 the previous year. I was asked to offer level 2 initiation for the team after my own training, and initiated a number of staff over the next decade.  There were 3 other students in our Ma...

Power and Fear

Image
Early in my path of teaching Reiki, I offered a class for fellow employees at our Retreat & Conference Centre .  Two coworkers signed up - one was also a massage therapist, the other worked in the kitchen. We were closed to guests, and had the Forest Shelter to ourselves!  Class was just beginning, when a third gal joined us.  A. worked in the office, & noticed the flyer on the back door just that morning, & said 'my guides made it clear that I need to be in this class - but I had other plans for today!' We talked a few minutes, she was VERY reluctant to stay, but generally followed her intuition... so I suggested she could remain for the general information (history, Reiki healing stories) portion, but when it was time for the initiation, she would need to decide whether she was leaving or staying. When the time for the practical teachings & initiation arrived, she agreed to stay, & we proceeded to initiation. The building is topped with a larg...
