Chronic pain
A recent inquiry in our Reiki Community group was on coping with one's own chronic pain. Takata's story of her healing journey offers a good example for healing from chronic issues.
Takata received treatment at the Reiki clinic AND from Dr Medea's sister, Mrs Shimura, daily for 3 weeks, after which she felt better. She continued to receive treatments for 6 months, before beginning training.
She became a student, learning and practicing for the next year, completing Okuden (what we now call 2nd degree) by the end of that time. (Reiki Sourcebook, pp 144-45)
My massage mentor Jeanne often said healing is like peeling an onion - the longer the issue has plagued you, the longer it's (likely) to take to heal - and we work on a layer of two at a time! She'd often tell a client, 'if its bothered you for several years, and you come regularly, it will likely take several months to notice a shift! But it is likely you'll feel better!'
Every teacher with whom I've studied healing modalities bespeaks the importance of getting treatment from other practioners when they are ill or suffering pain! This can be any modality combination which you find helpful.
In addition to having a consistent self-Reiki practice, Hawayo Takata's granddaughter Phyllis Furumoto told us Takata recommended that folks with chronic health issues, 'come every day for 4 months!' - if the person replies, 'I'll start tomorrow,' she'd say 'come back when you're ready for your health to be your priority!!'
(Phyllis - Global Reiki Webinar call, Sept 2017)
Phyllis recommended we each dedicate time for self care (a nap, walk, movement, attending a Reiki circle) equal to the time spent offering treatments! So for a day you give two 45 minute sessions, allow yourself an hour and 1/2 of self care - and drink good water (to help you 'hold' the charge)!
She encouraged us to do self Reiki daily. This can include both self treatment and Reiki practices - meditation, working with the principles, Gassh么 馃檹 ...
Hatsurei-H么 is an excellent addition to your daily practices!
Phyllis also suggested practioners receive 'treatments you pay for' (or trades) regularly:
- Weekly: 1 treatment
- Monthly: several days in a row, or a 1/2 or full day, dedicated to self care
- Annual: series of daily sessions (7 or 14 or 21 days
'Not all giving is a one way street, when we balance talking care of/ being taken care of, we are nourished as well.' - Phyllis Furumoto, Global Reiki Webinar, Sept. 2017
