Amida Buddha is guiding

In 1989, I went to a harp concert with the amazing Karen Bruner in January ... and met my Reiki master at a talk in the same room in September, 9 months later.

In the summer of 1991, two 1/2 years after first meeting Karen, I saw her at the NW Reiki gathering, "ah!! She does Reiki!! That explains it!" ... (The thread connecting her to my own Reiki journey - I'd just become a Master at that point)

When I took 2nd degree in '89, I dropped the symbols into the drum I'd made, and brought with me - and in 1993, when I got my first harp, dropped them into her!

Before 'finding' Reiki, I was 'waiting' for a book, and would visit a certain isle at Powell's City of Books, hoping it was be there ... this went on for at least a year.

(Powell's was an hour away in those days - longer now with more traffic) I'd go to the section with tomes on Tai Chi/ Qigong (which I began learning in 1983) and other movement and healing modalities, and pick up various books which seemed likely ...

Finally the book hit the shelves in 1988! Finally!!

There 'it' was - 'the Shamanic World of Ikuku Osumi,' about her experiences with Seiki-Jutsu! (I had no familiarity with Reiki nor Seiki at the time - I just knew THIS was the book I awaited ....)

And burst into tears when I read this paragraph, and the lines, 'Amita Buddha is also protecting this book ... One of Amida's tasks' is 'to protect ships and also act as a bridge between people.'

And ... I was one of the people this information was right for, one of those drawn across the bridge.

So - when I play music or my drum, when I craft a piece of jewelry or paint .... Amida Buddha is there - guiding the connection - making a bridge.

As Jane English writes in A Different Doorway, sometimes the connections between events and insights are rather like crumpling a napkin, drawing a line over the circumference, then trying to make sense of it when you flatten it out again ...

About 8 years after first heard of Amida Buddha, I learned his chant in a 'Tibetan Reiki' workshop one of my mastery students and I attended - here's a beautiful version and an article on links between Buddhist and Reiki practices.

The Buddhist teacher said at one point, 'like all of us, I have my human foibles!! AND - when I am teaching - I get out of my own way, and become a pure conduit for the buddhas!' Yes! I can relate to that balance of my own foibles, and the purity of the energy and the teachings. One of the best things we can do is get out of our own way, and let the energy flow!

What are some of the threads which drew you to Reiki?
